BILL GULLO
Bill's writing life began on cocktail napkins in the city of New Orleans. His turn toward screenwriting came when he adapted his unpublished novella into REDMOND, a feature screenplay that won Best Screenplay at the IFP Market in New York City. The next, THE LONG BLUE YONDER, was a semi-finalist for the Nicholl Fellowship and was selected for the Black List.
His screenplay, BASTARD, attracted Martin Scorsese to executive produce in 2018, with Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto directing. Ben Foster, Katherine Waterston, and Justice Smith were eventually attached to star with Topic financing. Despite all this name-dropping, the film stalled and is now resting on Bill's shelf.
His first produced feature, +1, directed by Dennis Iliadis (The Last House on the Left), was a NY Times Critic's Pick, and he wrote the screenplay for THE QUITTER which the NY Times called "a textured, heartfelt drama."
He has been a visiting professor of screenwriting and serial storytelling at multiple universities including NYU, and he served as Associate Director of Almanack Screenwriters, where he helped find and support emerging storytellers for the screen.
In 2025, he founded Storytellers Social Club as a way to provide social and professional opportunities for hard working humans across all creative disciplines.
He has also worked as an elevator man and one of the worst bartenders ever.
